Rise Pizzeria (http://risepizzeria.com/) will be opening at 1451 Burlingame Avenue in downtown Burlingame in mid-September but already there is an intriguing indicator of what diners have to look forward to. The attached images are of the arrival and installation of two very special ovens that will be used to prepare what promises to be some of the Bay Area’s best pizza.
Custom designed and handmade by artisan Mario Acunto in Naples, Italy, the 5,000 pound ovens traveled thousands of miles by ship to Oakland and were then trucked to Burlingame. They have affectionately been named Foozi and Nonni in honor of the proprietors’ mothers.
Omid Zahedi, the owner, explains that “these ovens breathe life into the kitchen. Their warmth and energy flow into the dining room, playing a key role in bringing food and people together to create a sense of community.”
The interior design work for Rise Pizzeria has been done by the renowned Jim Maxwell of Architects II, in partnership with the owners, and highlights will include an open kitchen, high ceilings, custom elm wood furniture, giant fans, repurposed ceiling joists, wood inlay in the finished cement flooring, decorative Spanish tile work and Carrera marble counter tops. Construction oversight is by long-time Bay Area developer Mike Monte.
