Chelokababi Persian Cuisine – Review

If you’re a local here in the South Bay, and particularly in the Sunnyvale area, then I hope you have heard of this hidden little jewel of a restaurant called Chelokababi. After having worked in Sunnyvale for several years now, I am what you say a regular at this amazing place! Serving the most tasty and authentic Persian Cuisine, this restaurant has won the stomachs of almost everyone that I have sent over. Being that I worked literally across the street at the Wild Palms Hotel, we send our guests there on a regular basis and they always come back thanking us. I call this the “Hidden Little Jewel” because it’s located in a very small strip of stores right behind a car wash/gas station. It’s at the corner of Wolfe Road and El Camino Real in Sunnyvale, Ca. You really wouldn’t know it was there unless you drove into the small parking lot.

My absolute favorite dishes that I order almost all the time are the Chopped Filet Saute or the Chopped Chicken Saute. Both dishes are marinated in the most aromatic spices and served with sauteed peppers, onions, zucchini and a side salad. However, THE MOST favorite part of the dish and dishes served is the delicious, steaming, basmati rice with a hint of saffron, topped with butter. My stomach is rumbling as I’m writing this just thinking about the rice! Other favorites are the traditional Shirazi salad made with cucumbers, tomatoes and onions dressed with olive oil and lemon juice. My favorite item to munch on while I wait patiently for my dish is the warm pita bread served with butter. You really can’t go wrong with any of the menu items that this, I will say it again, hidden little jewel has to offer.

I give this place a 2 thumbs up for anyone looking to dine in the eclectic collection of restaurants that the City of Sunnyvale has to offer. All I would recommend is to plan ahead as this place can be unbelievably busy at lunch hours during the work week. Make sure to say hello to the wonderful family of Chelokababi! If you do dine there, let me know what you think!
