Over the past year, I have established myself into another world known as the “Doll World”. I started a separate doll account on Instagram to showcase my love for styling, collecting Barbies and miniatures, @thestunningdolls (of course). There, I have met so many amazing collectors and unbelievably talented people.
With that being said, I was approached by the Costume Council of the Chicago History Museum as one of Mattel’s legends, Carol Spencer will be hosting a virtual presentation.
Carol Spencer will share about her storied career at Mattel dressing America’s favorite doll for 36 years. Spencer has influenced fashion through her fantastical designs for Barbie, which have thrilled both children and adults for decades. She was the first designer to have her signature on the doll, the first to go on a signing tour, the first to design a limited-edition Barbie Doll for collectors, and the designer of the best selling Barbie of all time.
Spencer’s book, Dressing Barbie: A Celebration of the Clothes That Made America’s Favorite Doll and the Incredible Woman Behind Them (2019), has gained international press coverage as publishers make their way to her living room to interview Spencer and photograph her amazing private archive.
The Costume Council of the Chicago History Museum invites you to join an afternoon with Carol Spencer on:
