California Dreamin’ at the Santa Cruz Dream Inn

If you’re a Bay Area native, then you know that Santa Cruz is just a hop skip and a drive over the hill. There are numerous hotels, motels, and inns to stay overnight in Santa Cruz, whether you’re visiting the area or to simply have a stay-cation and be close to home.  However, if you’re looking to take in the sounds of the waves and enjoy beautiful views of the ocean from your balcony, then The Dream Inn is where you want to be.

The Dream Inn is the only 4 star hotel in Santa Cruz that has a view of the ocean from every guest room balcony or patio.  The property was built back in the early 1960’s and quickly added a 10 story tower in 1970’s to accommodate the growing visitors in the area.  Joie de Vivre Hotels took over operations back in 2008 where the hotel was newly renovated and given what I call, the beach retro look.   Just walking into the hotel, I notice the plush furniture and colorful living room lobby, and photos that represent the beach atmosphere.

The guest rooms alone are worth coming to see.  The vibrant colors and artwork that represent the historic Beach Boardwalk surrounds the room.  The beds are one of the most comfortable that I have ever slept in along with the down pillows that you simply melt in.  For your viewing and technology pleasures, the room is equipped with a flat screen television, high-speed internet access along with an iPod docking station. What I personally cannot peel away from is the balcony / patio of the rooms.  Being an ocean lover, I absolutely love how every single guest room has a panoramic view of the Monterey Bay, the wharf and the Historic Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk.  I have stayed at the Dream Inn numerous times in the summer and even in December and I must say that you can still leave the balcony sliding door open at any season to listen to the waves of the ocean and have a comfortable night’s sleep.   Here are some amazing photos of the rooms offered at the Dream Inn.

The Dream Inn also has a restaurant attached to the hotel with spectacular views of the pool and ocean.  Aquarius serves fresh and local seafood and is open to the public along with guests of the hotel for breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner.  It also has a great lounge to have a cocktail and enjoy appetizers along with taking in the atmosphere of being beach side.

While staying at the Dream Inn, it’s nice to know that there are numerous activities and places to visit while being in the area.  Just a block away from the hotel is the wharf, which includes numerous restaurants and shops along with the famous Marini’s Salt Water Taffy and Candy Shop.  You can’t leave Santa Cruz without taking home the salt water taffy.  Next is the Historic Beach Boardwalk which is a great place to take the family.  Enjoy kid rides, confections, deep fried twinkies, and ride the famous Giant Dipper.  During the summer from August – September, the boardwalk offers 1907 nights which offers $1 tickets, $1 hot dogs and $1 sodas.  For couples, Santa Cruz Mountains are also known for wine tasting: Bonnie Doon, Cinnabar, Storrs, Bargetto, Ahlgren and more!

Next time you find yourself looking for a great beach front hotel, make sure to stay with The Santa Cruz Dream Inn!
