On Tuesday, November 13th Cointreau hosted an elaborate cocktail experience for us San Franciscans to celebrate the opening of La Maison Cointreau. The guests of the evening were not only treated with specialty drinks, but with an appearance and live performance by none other than world renown burlesque queen, Dita Von Teese amongst other amazing entertainers such as French singer/accordionist Nicole Renaud, chanteuse superstar Lady Rizo, glass player Johnny Rodgers and DJ Jonjon Battles.
Hosted inside Big Daddy’s Antiques the ambience of the venue was definitely worth talking about. The antiques which surrounded the room gave it much more character than any other venue that I have seen in a long time.
My favorite part of the evening was having the privilege of interviewing Dita Von Teese. I have always admired her look and retro-glam style and having seen and met her in person, I can easily say that she is what she looks like…flawless, delicate, classy and very sexy.
TSP: When you’re not performing and not all dressed up, what is your favorite loungewear to dress in at home?
DVT: I collect vintage loungewear such as robes and things from the 40’s and 50’s. I have an entire closet devoted to them. It’s comfortable and still looks glamorous.
TSP: Where does your burlesque inspiration come from?
DVT: Everywhere. Sometimes, I see an image in a book that makes me think of a show or I’ll watch an old movie or musical and I see things that will make a great strip tease. Sometimes, I’m just inspired by a certain style of dress, a piece of clothing or even just a rhinestone color.
TSP: Who was your favorite public foreign figure that you performed for?
DVT: Sophia Loren and Catherine Deneuve were in the audience once so that’s kind of amazing.
TSP: When you’re not dieting, what is your favorite food to binge on?
DVT: Tacos! Not fast food tacos, real crunchy tacos and even potato tacos.
TSP: You are unbelievably flawless to me, what make up are you wearing right now?
DVT: It’s my own. I have a makeup line with Art Deco that is currently not out here yet but it will be soon.
Following my interview, Dita headed backstage to get ready for what the crowd was waiting for, her burlesque performance. Prior to the anticipated show, I met with Cointreau’s Master Mixologist, Kyle Ford as he personally makes a cocktail for me, the Lime & Soda which was refreshing!
